From the darkness, inspiration returns

Summer is retreating, and with the dissipating light, I find inspiration is returning.

There are the people for which joy comes more naturally. Perhaps these are the same types who look forward to a warm summer day and the promise of a day swarming with aliveness that leaves them glistening when the sun meets the horizon. They are ignited by the light.

Then there are the people who naturally live in the darkest of depths, feeling every sensation, easily overwhelmed by the intensity of the summer heat. Their unease is quenched by mornings crisp with fog, days as short as a mix tape on repeat, and crescent moon nights dusted with wispy clouds. They are expanded by the dark.

My thirst is quenched by mornings crisp with fog, days as short as a mix tape on repeat, and crescent moon nights dusted in wispy clouds.

To those who know the magic of having one foot in the darkness and one foot in the dream, to the ones who dream of venturing deeper to join the ones who swim in the dark – welcome to your season.

It’s from the darkness that we can see our visions more clearly, when we’re no longer blinded by the light and scorched from the heat.

It’s from the darkness that we reach for threads of beauty to pull us up and out of our deepest suffering.

It’s from the darkness that we glean wonderful wisdom that inspires creations as vast as the edgeless dark night.

It’s in the darkness that we are able to cocoon into sweet sacred space to gestate what is found in the bottomless inner well.

the buzz of summer is silenced. we return to the comfort of darkness.

We welcome a silencing of the buzzing of summer and a return to the comfort of darkness. There’s a reason this is the season of magic and enchantment as we get that first taste of sweet, dark nectar – the lingering earthy complexity of molasses, rich and savory, as the fleeting sweetness of summer’s fruit drifts away.

Ideas are stirring around the magic and enchantment of this season and the inspiration we find in the dark. I’ll share what’s simmering in the cauldron as these ideas are given more form.
